JAVIER IRIBARREN

A 30 years old guy from Irun. Who was going to tell me I should be writing about Gipuzkoa, the land of my birth, from thousands of kilometers? About 5400 km separate me from mountains, beaches, rain, txakoli, cider, more rain, pintxos, countless home spreads…

True, there's nothing like being away from home to really appreciate where we come from. Deep inside you, you know that you do not miss a single place, but an extraordinary mix between right place at the right time with the right people.

I studied computer applications development, and from the beginning of my professional career I have been coming and going from Irun. First it was Madrid for about two years, and from 2012 onwards I accepted the challenge of coming to Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates. I have always been passionate about traveling and knowing new places and cultures. Currently I am working at the airport, between information displays with flights to destinations that always seemed too remote for me, and now that they are a stone's throw away, I could not miss this opportunity to visit amazing places with wonderful people from all over the world.

As I said before, opportunities must be taken, and 5400 km were not going to stop me from being part of this project. As my family, whom I always miss, has taught me…nothing is impossible, and whatever happens, wherever you are, you always have a place to return.

That place is Gipuzkoa, and to be part of GipuzkoaAround gives me the chance to feel closer when I'm away, and also to share with the people that I meet on the road, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Besides, I will be several days on holidays at home, perfect!!

I'm sure there will be many people living outside feeling identified. If through this project we can bring them somehow the land that they miss, it will have been worthwhile.
